Roslyn Mannon, MD

Roslyn Mannon, MD graduated from Duke University Medical School and completed her medical internship, residency, chief residency, and nephrology fellowship at Duke. She also served as a member of the faculty in the Division of Nephrology as a basic science investigator in transplantation and Director of Transplantation at the Durham VA Medical Center. She later joined the Transplantation Branch of NIDDK as Medical Director of Transplantation, a translational research program in transplantation immunology. In August 2008, Dr. Mannon was recruited to the University of Alabama at Birmingham in the Division of Nephrology. She is a Professor of Medicine and Surgery and Director of Research of the Alabama Transplant Center. Dr. Mannon is board certified in internal medicine and nephrology.

Dr. Mannon’s academic interests include concurrent studies in clinical and basic transplantation. Her laboratory utilizes small rodent models to understand recipient complications, with a focus on kidney allograft fibrosis, novel targets of chronic allograft injury, and the contribution of BK virus in chronic allograft injury. She has authored or coauthored over 100 articles and reviews on immune monitoring, chronic allograft injury, transplantation complications and tolerance trials and is an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Transplantation.

Dr. Mannon has a history of service to the American Society of Transplantation. She is currently a Councilor-at-Large, serving her fourth year. She has been a member of the Education, Clinical Trials, ATC planning, NIH/AST ad hoc, AST/ASN accreditation, and Women’s Health Committees. She served as co-chair of the Education Committee in 2004, and chair from 2005-2007. During the current year, Dr. Mannon has served as co-chair of the ATC planning committee, on the Awards Committee, and as Board liaison to the Education and AST/ASN renal accreditation Committees, as well as the Transplant Diagnostics Community of Practice.

Dr. Mannon has significant volunteer service to other organizations including the American Society of Nephrology serving on the program, Post-Graduate Education and Education Committees and Transplant Advisory Group, and The Transplantation Society as a member of the Women in Transplantation Steering Committee. She is past Chair of the National Kidney Foundation Basic Science Grant Committee, which provides significant funding to trainees and new investigators. Dr. Mannon is dedicated to the missions of the AST and to supporting and mentoring new investigators and clinicians in transplantation.
