Optimal Testing of the Live Donor to Prevent Transmission of Infectious Disease

A consensus conference cosponsored by AST, ASTS, NATCO, and OPTN/UNOS

When: July 28, 2011 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

Where: Four Points Sheraton BWI Airport, Baltimore, MD

Objectives: To determine the optimal strategy for evaluation of live donors in order to prevent transmission of infectious diseases, focusing on HIV, HCV, and HBV. Issues related to risk stratification, optimal testing strategies, consent, and implementation of recommendations that will be applicable for paired exchange and live donor chains will be addressed.

Invited Participants: Representatives from the American Society of Transplantation (AST), American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS), NATCO, OPTN/UNOS, HRSA, HHS, the FDA, CDC, CMS, AOPO, and the Canadian Society of Transplantation.

This meeting will be held as an open forum which the transplant community is invited to attend. Following the presentation of the work group recommendations, there will be time for public comment in advance of the final vote on the consensus document.
