Each day 18 people die because there are not enough organs available for transplantation. Over 111,000 others, meanwhile, wait and hope for their chance to receive the gift of tissue and eye donations... and their time is running out.
The American Society of Transplantation (AST) has joined the Workplace Partnership for Life (WPFL) Hospital Campaign as a national partner to work with organ donation organizations, national healthcare associations, and hospitals nationwide to register 300,000 new organ donors by April 30, 2012.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, launched the WPFL Hospital Campaign on June 29, 2011. This campaign builds on the success of existing workplace partnerships with more than 11,000 companies and organizations already participating in a broader donor awareness initiative, created in 2001- the "Workplace Partnership for Life."
We are asking members to help save lives by joining the WPFL Hospital Campaign and educating your members, staff, and extended community on the critical need for donation and providing them with opportunities to sign up as organ, eye and tissue donors.
Joining the campaign is easy. Contact your local donation organizations to find out how to recruit your hospital or healthcare sector group to become a partner, or visit www.organdonor.gov for more details on becoming involved. Partners are provided with strong support in planning and promoting a successful campaign.
The American Society of Transplantation is an international organization of professionals dedicated to advancing the field of transplantation and improving patient care by promoting research, education, advocacy, and organ donation.
