AST Distinguished Fellows Research Forum
Clinical fellows, clinical residents or research fellows are invited to submit an abstract
The Abstract Submission has closed
What It’s All About
AST is pleased to introduce the first Distinguished Fellows Research Forum, a competitive event for fellows and other trainees in the field of solid organ and tissue transplantation. Interested individuals may submit a single abstract describing their original transplantation-related research (basic or clinical). The first authors of accepted abstracts will be invited to present their research before faculty and fellow colleagues during the meeting. AST will provide the invited author with air travel and lodging. At the meeting, invited trainees can expect questions, critiques and comments from those in attendance. Guest lectures by invited faculty maximize the benefits this meeting has to offer.
When and Where
April 26 – 27, 2008
Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina
San Diego, California
Why You Should Apply
This is a unique and valuable opportunity for fellows and trainees to rehearse presentations prior to attending the American Transplant Congress (ATC) and other national meetings, interact with the next generation of distinguished investigators performing transplant-related research, and disseminate scientific knowledge derived from basic and clinical research.
Are You Eligible?
Clinical fellows, clinical residents or research fellows are invited to submit an abstract summarizing their original transplant-related basic or clinical research for consideration. For the sake of this meeting, the applicant should be listed as the first author of the abstract to qualify for one of the 25 presentation slots and the accompanying travel grant. Applicants are allowed to submit only one abstract as a first author.
How to Apply
Abstract Submission has closed.
World-renowned transplantation faculty will review and score submissions, and the first authors of the top 25 abstracts that meet the criteria will be invited to San Diego to present their work. All invitees will receive travel grants, and only invited authors are permitted to attend this closed meeting. Presentation of an abstract at this meeting does not preclude or guarantee presentation at major national or international meetings.
What Selected Authors Receive
Selected applicants will receive the following financial assistance under the travel grant:
- Round trip coach class airfare to San Diego (when booked through the AST travel agent, World Travel)
- Hotel room and tax for one night at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina (two if needed due to flight schedules)
- Meals during the meeting
Please note: meals while traveling, airport ground transportation, and other miscellaneous travel expenses will not be paid for by AST nor will they be reimbursed after the meeting. You must arrange and pay for these items on your own. Complete information will be provided to travel grant awardees at a later date.
What to Expect in San Diego
The meeting opens the afternoon of Saturday, April 26 with abstract presentations from invited attendees along with lectures from invited faculty. The evening will end with a reception and dinner to allow interaction between the faculty and attendees.
On Sunday, faculty members will give guest lectures and the remainder of the abstracts will be presented. The Distinguished Fellows Research Forum will conclude with an awards luncheon where the four top abstract authors (two from basic science, two from clinical science) will be recognized for their achievement. The top four presenters will be determined during the meeting.
This intimate meeting offers exclusive abstract-presenting practice, networking opportunities, and outstanding faculty lectures that will give you and your career in transplantation medicine the edge you’ve been looking for.
